Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock quotes

Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock was a German poet and a key figure of early Romanticism. His epic poem "The Messiah" had a major influence on the development of German literature. He inspired later generations of writers with his innovative use of language and emotional depth. Here are 2 of his quotes:

He who has no opinion of his own, but depends upon the opinion and taste of others, is a slave. (Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock)
The God who created these fair heavens with the same facility as yon green sapling; he who hath bestowed on man a life of toil, of transient joys and fleeting pains, that he might not forget the higher worth of his enduring soul, and might feel that immortality waited for him beyond the grave;-He, he is one only God!
