Scholes was England's best football player. It was impossible to take the ball from him, and he never mishit a pass. He did not belong on the left flank but that's where we needed him most. He had played on the left in the qualifying campaign, and sometimes even at Manchester United. (Paul Scholes)

That was top football. It was all one touch, the ball was perfect into the player they were passing to and the first time finish with his right foot was great. Our philosophy is to play football like that and get the ball down and play fast one or two touch football.

When he passes the ball it stays passed. The ball goes exactly where he wants it to. I have always loved him for that. I played against him once or twice and he is an absolute genius. He is a role model for anyone who wants to play football. He is a joy to watch. In fact, I wish he was 21, then I could see his career all over again.

I prefer to win titles with the team ahead of individual awards or scoring more goals than anyone else. I'm more worried about being a good person than being the best football player in the world.
